Understanding the Construction Contract in a Project Financing (27 February 2018)
It is fair to say that most people did not know what to expect from a talk on project financing (PF). However, much to the pleasure of around 60 persons in attendance, Alex's talk was insightful, interesting and wonderfully engaging.
Covering topics from the basics of PF, through to EPC contractors, the passing-through of risk, the nexus of construction contracts, and time and cost reliefs, Alex clearly explained the benefits and deficiencies in usual PF arrangements.
Being a talk for SCL, Alex infused some considerations of construction law. Especially interesting was the concept of 'parallel loan-agreement' vis-a-vis the prohibition of 'pay-when-paid' provisions under the SOP Act. This also catalysed some interesting discussion once the session reached its Q&A stage.
From the positive feedback received for this talk, it might well be that a repeat session is arranged later in the year. I would certainly commend the talk.
