Council Member's Message - September 2026

Dear members and friends of SCL(S),
It is my pleasure to welcome you to a very special edition of the SCL (Singapore) newsletter. While the AGM held on 26 August was an event to welcome in our new Council, it was also one to say goodbye to the outgoing Council members who have worked so hard over the past two years (and in many cases, beyond).
A big thanks goes to Trevor Lam from us all for his tireless efforts and inspirational leadership as SCL(S) Chair 2024-2026. As a Council member, I found his relentless enthusiasm a real source of energy at Council meetings, particularly at times when the meetings and commitments coincided with pressures of the day job.
As one chapter ends, another begins. For the 2026-2028 term, we are incredibly blessed to have Joanna Seetoh stepping into the Chair. Echoing Trevor’s words at the annual dinner, we are all in very good hands under Joanna’s leadership.
On a personal note, this will be my final newsletter as Chair of the Publications Committee. It has been a real honour to carry the torch over the past 2 years, and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed their time and effort through articles and thought pieces over that time. SCL(S) is truly a wonderful platform for the sharing of ideas and opinions about the past, present and future of construction law in Singapore, and I encourage you all to continue to share these generously with your peers.
Big thanks go to my fellow committee members (and friends), Daniel Ho and Justin Tan, as well as of course to June Tan and her fantastic team at Intellitrain.
Finally, a reminder that the biggest event in the Singapore calendar is fast approaching. The 2026 SCL(S) Conference is entitled “Technology, Legal Innovation and Singapore’s Built Future”, and it promises to be a cracker. As always, there is an international, star-studded line-up, and anyone who’s anyone in the industry will be there. For tickets and sponsorship opportunities, please contact the friendly SCL(S) Council members, or visit the SCL(S) website.
Over and out.
Chris Rudland
Outgoing Publications Committee Chair, SCL (Singapore)
